Investigative Post, a nonprofit newspaper, covered the Buffalo Charter Revision Commission’s vote Monday on a resolution to explore open primaries, ranked choice voting and ballot access.

Steve Polowitz, a commission member, sponsored the resolution, "Monday’s vote, Polowitz explained, allows the group to accept proposed charter and ballot language from Unite NY, a nonpartisan group that advocates for election reforms. Executive Director Anthony Thomas said Tuesday that his group has already sent some proposed language to the commission.

“We wanted to give them a baseline, at a minimum, to start with,” he said. “They articulated at different points [that] they didn’t have anything, so we gave them what we think is really good.”

Polowitz said the group will present research, charter amendments and ballot language to the commission so that the body can vote at a future meeting on whether to adopt the election reform measures."
