According to our latest Voter Empowerment Index (VEI), New York City voters are dissatisfied with the state's political system and support reforms that would give voters more say and candidates a fairer opportunity to compete.

The survey polled 561 registered New York City voters across political affiliations.

Key Findings include:

64% support an open primary system that would allow any registered voter to participate.

59% support lowering the independent candidates' petition-signature requirements to match those of major-party candidates.

56% support using ranked choice voting in New York State elections. A majority (53%) believe it would give voters like them more say in who gets elected.
