So they’re now gearing up for 2027, when they’re confident they’ll succeed thanks to the pathway paved by local law. New Yorkers will likely be voting next year on a plan to redraw the state’s congressional map, and the open primary question would end up on that
same ballot if Unite NY prevails.
“We will use these extra months to expand our coalition, educate voters, and prepare to give New Yorkers the open democracy they deserve in 2027,” Anthony Thomas, the group’s executive director, said. Unite NY already submitted 45,000 petitions with the city Board of Elections in early July to secure a ballot spot for an open primary question.
