Syracuse.com published a letter to the editor by Anthony Thomas, executive director of Unite NY, about the upcoming vote in Onondaga to enact term limits.

According to Unite NY’s February 2026 statewide Voter Empowerment Index, a poll measuring New Yorkers’ support for key democracy reforms, 82% of respondents support term limits for statewide elected officials.
On Nov. 3, Onondaga County voters will have the opportunity to vote on two separate propositions establishing either 12-year or 16-year term limits for County Executive and County Comptroller.
By voting yes on either proposition, Onondaga County voters can help create more opportunities for new voices, encourage competitive county elections, and strengthen accountability in their local government.
