JOHN BULLIS

Mohawk Valley Lead

John Bullis, Dean Emeritus, held leadership positions on two State University of New York community college campuses (Herkimer College and Mohawk Valley Community College) for over three decades. His career included time as the Director of Ithaca Alpha House, a coed residential drug treatment facility in Trumansburg, NY; and Executive Director of the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce. 

His work in organizational development and performance, change management, government relations, campaign fundraising, institutional research, community and public relations, and addiction treatment has had a significant impact on thousands of lives. Bullis also earned a New York State Guides license and was a founding partner of the White Dog Trail Co., a four season guiding and outfitting business located in the Mohawk Valley. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served on the flight deck of the U.S.S. Independence.

His work has been recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally having received the Genesis Award for Healthcare Leadership; the prestigious SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Professional Service; and the North American Council for Staff, Program, and Organizational Development (NCSPOD) Exemplar Award.

Bullis holds degrees from Oneonta State College; Cortland College; and Herkimer College, and completed the post-graduate program of study in Management Development at Harvard University.

He currently serves on the governing board of the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown and is an advisor to the Human Technologies Corporation board in Utica, NY.

Dean Bullis has also served on the boards of Little Falls Hospital; Bassett Healthcare Network; Human Technologies Corporation; the New York State Division of the American Cancer Society; Middleville Free Library; and the Presbyterian Homes Foundation. He is a founding member of the Mohawk Valley Civic Club and past president of the Conversation Club.

Bullis resides with his wife Janet in their passive solar home on the West Canada Creek in the Town of Fairfield. His daughter Amy Jo lives with her husband Jason and daughter Daphne in Eagle Rock, CA.

In his spare time he rates golf courses for the New York State Golf Association and is an Off Ice Official in the American Hockey League.
